Oakland Catholic Softball Defense Powers to Victory Over Jeannette Jayhawks
Posted on 03/27/2025
The Oakland Catholic Eagles showcased stellar defense and solid pitching as they defeated the Jeannette Jayhawks 2-0 in a thrilling softball matchup on Thursday afternoon.
Kennedy Waffensmith delivered an exceptional performance in the circle, surrendering just three hits and no runs over six and two-thirds innings. She struck out three batters while walking only two, keeping the Jeannette offense at bay for the entire game.
But it wasn’t just Waffensmith’s pitching that made a difference—Oakland Catholic's defense was flawless, recording no errors across seven innings. The Eagles played with poise and precision, providing Waffensmith with the support she needed to keep the Jayhawks off the scoreboard.
They recorded a total of 5 hits from multiple players over the course of the game (Nina Hillard, Madi Pullen, Kennedy Waffensmith, Natalie Waffensmith, and Chloe Fettis). The Eagles struck first in the second inning with a Madi Pullen single. Sarah Weir advanced her to third with a sacrifice bunt. Waffensmith then delivered with a clutch single, bringing Pullen home for the game’s first run.
Oakland Catholic added insurance in the bottom of the fourth, thanks to a spectacular in the park solo home run from Natalie Waffensmith. Her line drive to right field rolled all the way to the fence, securing the run and extending the Eagles’ lead.
With the victory, Oakland Catholic looks ahead to their next matchup, traveling to Laurel Highlands on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
